Dr. Andreas Wienand

M.Sc. in Biology

"Both research and intellectual property are about describing and influencing complex systems on the basis and in consideration of binding legislation. The difference between the two is that in science each result is a new insight, whereas the protection of rights focuses on solutions in the client's best interest."

Andreas Wienand, who was born in 1970, bases the comparison of scientific research to practical intellectual property protection on the background of his own experience: as a biologist, he has conducted research on the effect of physical impacts on organic systems, namely of high-frequency electromagnetic fields on the electrical properties of lipid membrane systems at the Institute for Cytophysiology of the University of Bochum. For this research, he first received his Master degree and then his Ph.D. in Natural Sciences in this field.

In 2002, he commenced his career in the field of intellectual property by completing his education as a patent attorney with Gesthuysen, von Rohr & Eggert in Essen, while at the same time studying Law for Patent Attorneys at the University of Hagen and completing internships with the Regional Court of Dusseldorf, the German Patent and Trademark Office as well as the Federal Patent Court. After being admitted as a patent attorney in 2007, he became a partner of Gesthuysen, von Rohr & Eggert.

Andreas Wienand consults national and international clients in all aspects of intellectual property. His technical focus is on inventions in the fields of natural and human sciences, such as biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology and pharmaceutics as well as process engineering. Andreas Wienand is one of the founding partners of VON ROHR Patent Attorneys.
